The will of John TRINKHOLE - 28 April 1829

Royal Hospital at Haslar


In the Name of God Amen I John Trinkhole Marine No 7 of His Majestys Revenue Cruizer but now a Patient at Haslar Hospital being of sound and disposing mind and memory do hereby make this my last Will and Testament As for such Worldly Estate and Effects which I shall be possessed of at the time of my decease I give and bequeath unto my Sister Ann Trinkhole of West Lulworth in the County of Dorset all such Wages Prize Money Allowances and other sum or sums of Money as now are or hereafter may be due to me for my service on board the said Ship or any other King Ship or Vessel and also my Wearing Apparel ready money and other my Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever And do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Ann Trinkhole sole Executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other Wills by me heretofore made as far as Wages Prize Money or other Naval Allowances may be bequeathed thereby and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament for Wages Prize Money or other Naval Allowances In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine and in the tenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the 4th by the Grace of God of the united Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King Defender of the ffaith John Trinkhole

In the Goods of John Trinkhole deceased

Appeared Personally Sarah Trinkhole of Newport in the Isle of Wight and made Oath that she knew and was well acquainted with John Trinkhole formerly of West Lulworth in the County of Dorset Mariner but late of Haslar Hospital in the County of Southampton a Seaman belonging to His Majestys Revenue Cruizer......deceased for several years before and to the time of his death and that during such her knowledge and acquaintance with the said deceased hath frequently seen him write and also write and subscribe his name whereby she hath become well acquainted with his manner and character of Handwriting and subscription And this Appearer having now with care and attention perused and inspected the paper writing now hereunto annexed purporting to be the last Will and Testament the said deceased beginning thus “Royal Hospital at Haslar In the Name of God Amen I John Trinkhole Marine No 7 of His Majestys Revenue Cruizer but now a Patient at Haslar Hospital being of sound and disposing mind and memory do hereby make this my last Will and Testament” ending thus “In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine and in the tenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the 4th by the Grace of God of the united Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King Defender of the ffaith” and thus subscribed “John Trinkhole” saith that she verily and in her conscience believes the said name John Trinkhole so set and subscribed to the said Will to be of the proper handwriting and subscription of the said John Trinkhole deceased Sarah Trinkhole On the 13th day of June the said Sarah Trinkhole was duly sworn to the truth of the aforegoing Affidavit by virtue of the annexed Commission before me P Geary Commissioner

Proved at London 16th June 1829 before the Judge by the Oath of Ann Trinkhole Spinster the Sister the sole Executrix to whom Administration was granted having been first sworn by Commission duly to Administer

This is the last Will and Testament of me Sarah Trinkhole of West Lulworth in the County of Dorset Spinster I direct that all my debts funeral and testamentary expences be paid by my executors I give and bequeath to John Barnett Gillingham of Wareham Draper and William Shippard of the same place Gentleman the sum of One hundred pounds upon trust to pay the same with the interest (if any) to accrue thereon after my decease to my Brother Thomas Trinkhole by weekly instalments of ten shillings per week during his life or until the whole of the said sum and interest shall have been paid to him the said weekly instalments to be....at the time of my death and the first payment to be made as soon as conveniently may be thereafter and after the decease of the said Thomas Trinkhole in case there shall be any overplus remaining of the said sum of one hundred pounds upon trust to pay the same overplus to Henry Trinkhole Thomas Trinkhole the younger John Trinkhole and George Trinkhole sons of my said Brother Thomas Trinkhole equally between them share and share alike I give and bequeath to the said Thomas Trinkhole the younger the sum of twenty five pounds I give and bequeath to the said Henry Trinkhole the sum of fifty pounds I give and bequeath to the said John Trinkhole the sum of five pounds I give and bequeath to the said George Trinkhole the sum of twenty pounds I give and bequeath to Mary Sophia Stroud daughter of Sophia Stroud Matron of Dorchester Gaol the sum of fifty pounds I give and bequeath to Mary Baker daughter of John Baker of Lulworth Blacksmith the sum of fifty pounds and my Watch I give and bequeath to Eleanor Baker sister of the said John Baker the sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings I give and bequeath to  the said John Baker the sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings I give and bequeath to Mary Snelling wife of Robert Snelling Coast Guard Man the sum of ten pounds I give and bequeath to Mary Harvell Widow of George Harvell the sum of five pounds I give and bequeath to Ann Williams wife of John Williams Shoemaker the sum of five pounds and as to all the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath the same unto my brother the said Thomas Trinkhole and his Sons the said Henry Trinkhole Thomas Trinkhole the younger John Trinkhole and George Trinkhole equally to be divided between them share and share alike and I hereby declare that my said trustees and executors shall be charged and chargeable only with such monies as they shall respectively actually receive notwithstanding their joining in any receipt or other act for the sake of conformity and shall not be answerable or accountable the one for the other of them nor for any loss or damage unless the same shall happen by or through the wilful default of them or either of them and that it shall be lawful for them out of the monies which shall come to their hands to retain or allow to each other all cost charges and expences which they or either of them shall sustain in or about the execution of the trusts hereby in them reposed and I appoint the said John Barnett Gillingham and William Shippard Executors of this my Will and I hereby revoke all Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Sarah Trinkhole have hereunto set my hand this twenty seventh day of March one thousand eight hundred and fifty two Sarah Trinkhole
